Study the music away from the piano.

Look for the time signature.

Look for the key signature.

Look for the tempo markings.

Look for the dynamic markings.

Are there accidentals? (flats, sharps, natural signs)

Is there a repeat sign?

Discover the overall mood of the piece.

Look for repetitions in melody and rhythm.

Divide the piece into sections. Label them A, B, C. Does part A repeat?

Clap the rhythm.

Say the note names.

Say the intervals.

Read through the words of the song.

Is there something new in the song?

Play left hand alone.

Play right hand alone.

Check the fingering.

To bridge sections, practice the last measure of one section and the first measure of the next section.

Sing along while playing.

Do this for each song, everyday.
